New Perspectives on Open Innovation
CENTRIM's Steve Flowers explores open innovation from an unusual perspective
Over the past decade 'open innovation' has been widely discussed. It is now accepted that many forms of innovation will be facilitated when people from outside an organisation contribute ideas, experience and different perspectives. One of CENTRIM's most experienced researchers, Steve Flowers, has specialised in this area. Recently, at a Freeman Centre Seminar, Steve presented a case study of how some of those who suffer from Crohn's Disease have applied unconventional treatments to themselves using live worms. Steve's case study showed that open innovation occurs in unexpected places. It may be that medical practice will be advanced radically by the use of unconventional treatments.
